Planting in the Italian Garden was designed by Tom Stuart Smith within the framework of Sir Charles Barry's 19th century plan and includes lines of Versailles planters containing standard clipped Portugese laurels, Prunus lusitanica, each side of the central path, Irish yews, fountains and thousands of herbaceous perennials and grasses planted in formal beds.
