Lukesland, Ivybridge

A delicious watery valley below Dartmoor, near Ivybridge in Devon, Lukesland is full of flower and scent in late spring when rhododendrons, azaleas and cherries blossom above a carpet of long grass studded with bluebells, red campion and blue alkanet. The distinctive house was built as a hunting lodge in 1862 in Scottish baronial style and the Howell family have looked after house and garden since 1930. Spent flowers fall into the stream and onto the paths like confetti.
