Dalemain near Ullswater in Cumbria is renowned for its marmalade festival in March and its dazzling display of meconopsis in early June. These heavenly blue poppies seem to love the rich acid soil and damp soft atmosphere of the Lake District. With their intensely blue, veined petals and their strong hairy stems they're an unforgettable sight en masse. Other highlights include a Tudor knot garden, a rose walk, a children's garden and spectacular views out to the surrounding fells.
